Frequently asked questions
I looked at your site at home and it looks great but when I browsed it at work/different computer it did not look as good. Why?
There is a possibility that the second machine used was running Internet Explorer 6. IE6 does not natively support certain image files (namely PNG images with alpha channels allowing graduated transparency). As such I have had to include some code which changes certain stylistic items when the site is viewed in IE6 or less.
Ideally everyone would upgrade their IE6 as it is outdated (version 8 is out now) but we understand that some people are not in a position to upgrade such as locked-down work systems
You have validation icons at the top right of the page but the CSS does not validate.
Yes and no. It does bring up one error but that is a technicality. It only occurs when validating in IE6 or below and is part of the problem mentioned above.
There is a hack that allows some transparent PNGs to be viewed within IE6 under certain conditions (not tiled or rollovers). Part of this hack is to assign a non-semantic behaviour within the stylesheet for items with a transparent PNG in.
It is not an idea situation but is a known CSS hack and the other 1500-odd
lines of CSS validate perfectly so I think it is fair enough. Maybe it would
be nice if the WC3 who do the validating would recognise the behaviour:
url(iepngfix.htc) hack so sites would validate properly while still allowing designs that can be viewed despite Microsoft's failings.
If I click on the images on the right hand side of a client case study I get nothing / the image on a new page. Couldn't you have done something nicer?
We did. The likelyhood is you have javascript disabled on your browser.
Some systems may have it turned off as default, maybe a company-wide security policy. Most machines should be able to run it but for those that can't the links should devolve into something which is at least useable - in this case opening the image on a new page.
